Artist: Rainer Gross

Rainer Gross left his hometown Cologne at the age of 22 in 1973, where he studied art at the University of Applied Sciences, in order to go to New York. Gross followed the well-known photographer Howard Kanovitz - at the time participant of the Documenta, Kassel - to New York and worked there as his assistant. Later he also worked for the artist Larry Rivers.

In 1979 he began his own career as an independent artist, painting figurative paintings with elements of European art history, integrating, for example, motifs from Rubens, Rembrandt and Raphael. He discovered abstract painting for himself in 1993 with the series "Fingertip Tingling". His "Contact Paintings" focus on material and color, whose structure is reminiscent of the dilapidated charm of house walls that are starting to peel. With the same technique, he paints the series of logos, for which he selects brands of well-known American companies. The paintings of Rainer Gross are exhibited internationally in museums and galleries and can be found in many international collections.
